Hospice Care

Patrick Voelkel Hospice Care Pat Voelkel at Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Dear Patient Care Giver:

Patrick Voelkel was a committed volunteer for Hospice of the Chesapeake since November of 2004.

Hospice of the Chesapeake provides care for terminally ill patients and their families on an on-call basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the efforts of an interdisciplinary team. Upon completion of an extensive 21-hour training program, Patrick became part of this team and has been expected to professionally represent our mission. With the utmost compassion and understanding in sensitive circumstances, he has given respite for numerous care givers.

Not only has Patrick been a committed patient care volunteer, he has also served Hospice of the Chesapeake in programs involving bereaved families and children after a significant loss.

As a reliable, faithful volunteer Patrick has always received excellent evaluations, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him as a companion to any family needing support in caring for their loved one.

Sincerely,

Kathy Bourgard

Director of Volunteers

When Jay needed extra care, Pat was eager to learn from the Hospice nurse how to care for him. When Pat had concerns, he expressed them, which gave me a peace of mind. He never missed his assigned day. ~
Betty Knupp – 102 yr old Mother + 90 yr old close friend with Parkinson’s

Pat’s attention to the whole person is the key to his success as a caregiver. I cannot recommend him highly enough. ~ Molly Ridout – 93 yr old Father with Parkinson’s

The care that Pat provided was through the evolution of his disease, and Pat excelled in every phase of his care. I think Pat holds a unique quality in that he is able to not only provide aide to the patient but to also provide comfort to the family. ~ Beth Donald, Father with ALS
